STATEMENT FROM THE BOARD OF THE MONTEVERDI CHOIR & ORCHESTRAS. APERTURE MUSEALE SERALI GALLERIE ACCADEMIA VENEZIA

The Board of the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras (MCO) has made the decision that Sir John Eliot Gardiner, founder of the Monteverdi Choir, the English Baroque Soloists and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, will not be returning to the organisation.

Following a reported assault in August 2023, John Eliot Gardiner stepped back from public music-making. He accepted full responsibility for the incident, and he has not worked with the organisation for nearly a year. During this time, the MCO did consider the possibility of a rehabilitation process – operating within the MCO’s Respect & Dignity at Work policy – while its primary concern throughout has been to fully uphold values of inclusion, equality and respect for all its stakeholders.

 As a leading Arts organisation, the MCO takes seriously its obligations to protect victims of abuse and assault, and preventing any recurrence remains a priority for the organisation.

John Eliot Gardiner’s extraordinary musical influence over the past sixty years has made a lasting impact. The MCO acknowledges with gratitude his monumental contribution, and holds a deep-seated commitment to honour and preserve these phenomenal accomplishments.

 The organisation is proud to have enabled and promoted his long and illustrious career, alongside that of many other musicians. They will work passionately to build upon the remarkable foundations laid by the three ensembles he founded, taking forward their trailblazing work with new talent and new benchmark performances for years to come.

So far this year the MCO has continued to bring extraordinary music making to audiences around the world. Projects with conductors Dinis Sousa, Jonathan Sells and Peter Whelan, including the Beethoven symphony cycle in London and Paris, Bach motets in Leipzig, and, most recently, Handel’s Israel in Egypt at the Salzburg Festival, have attracted widespread critical acclaim.

 At the end of the summer and in coordination with our venue partners, the MCO will announce new conductors that will be joining the MCO to lead a new season of projects, which will feature new creative milestones and firsts for the choir and orchestras.

NOTA STAMPA   APERTURE SERALI | ESTATE 2024   Il sabato sera, dal 27 luglio al 14 settembre 2024,  dalle 19.15 alle 23.15  sarà possibile visitare la mostra Willem de Kooning e l’Italia alle Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia e scoprire i capolavori della collezione permanente grazie ad appuntamenti speciali   Il sabato sera, dal 27 luglio al 14 settembre 2024, dalle 19.15 alle 23.15, le Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia aprono le porte ai visitatori, che potranno scoprire i capolavori conservati nella collezione permanente e ammirare la splendida mostra Willem de Kooning e l’Italia, grazie a visite guidate ed eventi speciali, come l’appuntamento di mercoledì 28 agosto in occasione della presentazione dell’inedita ricomposizione del soffitto vasariano. LA MOSTRA WILLEM DE KOONING E L’ITALIA L’esposizione, curata da Gary Garrels e Mario Codognato, è la più grande retrospettiva dell’artista mai organizzata in Italia ed esplora, per la prima volta, i periodi che Willem de Kooning trascorse in Italia nel 1959 e nel 1969, e il profondo impatto che questi soggiorni ebbero sul suo lavoro. Il percorso espositivo riunisce 75 opere, ed espone per la prima volta insieme tre dei Pastoral Landscapes più noti di de Kooning, Door to the River, A Tree in Naples e Villa Borghese, dipinti che dimostrano in modo evidente i persistenti ricordi del suo viaggio in Italia ed esprimono la vitalità della produzione del celebre artista. LA COLLEZIONE PERMANENTE Durante l'apertura straordinaria serale sarà possibile visitare l’intera collezione permanente, che recentemente è stata ampliata con l’apertura di sei nuove sale dedicate alla pittura veneta del Cinquecento, poste lungo la splendida loggia palladiana. In occasione della presentazione della straordinaria ricomposizione del soffitto ligneo che Vasari dipinse nel 1542 per Palazzo Corner Spinelli sul Canal Grande, mercoledì 28 agosto 2024 il museo resterà aperto fino alle 23.15, con un evento speciale dedicato. LE ATTIVITÀ STRAORDINARIE Con le aperture serali in programma per l’estate 2024, arricchite da visite guidate e altre attività speciali alla mostra Willem de Kooning e l’Italia e alla collezione permanente, le Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia aderiscono al progetto di valorizzazione finanziato dal MiC.   Per conoscere il calendario delle aperture serali e il programma degli appuntamenti, è possibile consultare gli aggiornamenti sul sito ufficiale del museo www.gallerieaccademia.it.
