This week sees the release of a three-disc box set by Cristian Măcelaru and the Orchestre National de France in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ravel. Recorded live during a citywide festival in Paris in March, ‘Ravel Paris 2025’ is released today on Naïve Classiques, and encompass nearly three hours of Ravel’s major orchestral works.

The programme centres around performances of Daphnis et
Chloé, Ma Mère l’Oye, and Le Tombeau de Couperin—including two newly
orchestrated movements by David Molard Soriano. Also featured are La Valse, Une
barque sur l’océan, Pavane pour une infante défunte, Alborada del gracioso,
Rapsodie espagnole, and Boléro.
Cristian's recent recording with the orchestra of Enescu's
Symphonies No. 1–3 on Deutsche Grammophon was also today announced as a
finalist in the Orchestral category of the Gramophone Awards. The winners will
be revealed on 15 October.
The following month, Cristian heads out on tour with the
orchestra in the US which culminates in a performance at Carnegie Hall. Ravel
is again on the programme when Cristian and the orchestra are joined by soloist
Daniil Trifonov for the composer’s Piano Concerto in G major, as well as for
Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No.2. The audience are also treated to the second
suite from Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé and Barraine’s Symphony No.2.
