Casa de la India. Artes escénicas y música. Concierto de canto Dhrupad. 14/12/2025. A las 18 horas en el Real Conservatorio de Música de Madrid.
En la tarde de domingo de ayer, en medio del bullicio y el
ajetreo de las gentes en sus preparativos navideños, un espacio diferente: en
la capital se pudo disfrutar de la belleza atemporal del dhrupad en su
forma más pura en una velada de trascendencia espiritual y musical con Kirit
Singh (canto) y Jorge Lozano (pakhawaj).
El público, que llenaba el auditorio del Conservatorio, variado, con una fuerte presencia de miembros de la comunidad hindú en España, integrantes de Casa de la India, diplomáticos y responsables de entidades culturales madrileñas que irradian una influencia importante en la vida musical, literaria, antropológica y social de la ciudad.
La música vocal dhrupad significa un viaje de entrega a las entidades melódicas divinas de las ragas, la forma más antigua de música raga que se conserva y que se sigue practicando hoy en día desde la antigüedad en el subcontinente indio.
Esta tradición vocal e instrumental- según explicó el Excmo Embajador de la India- el Excmo. Sr. Jayant N. Khobragade - , que se expresó correctamente en inglés y en español, tiene una narrativa de más de 3.000 años y está vinculada a las vedas. La forma comienza con un alap improvisado utilizando sílabas abstractas en el que la raga se experimenta en tres tempos distintos (lento, medio y rápido). La presentación de cada raga concluye con una composición que incluye letras, ajustadas a ciclos rítmicos específicos, acompañadas por el antiguo instrumento de percusión conocido como pakhawaj, muy bien utilizado, con eficiencia y destreza por Jorge Lozano.
Por su parte, Kirit Singh ha sido alumno de música
vocal bajo la tutela del maestro de dhrupad de renombre mundial Pt Uday
Bhawalkar ji desde 2013. Imparte clases de dhrupad y ha actuado para
instituciones y organizaciones famosas en todo el mundo, entre las que se
incluyen el Barbican (como parte del Festival Darbar), South Asian Arts UK,
SAMA Arts Network, el Instituto del Sur de Asia de Chicago, el Templo de Bellas
Artes de Kuala Lumpur, la Academia de Artes Satori de Daca y Hast-O-Neest en
Lahore, entre otras.
Es un maestro en tocar el instrumento, cantar y a la vez, mover rítmicamente la mano libre siguiendo las melodías. Con un dominio muy oriental del cuerpo, hacia dentro, profundo, abriendo chakras y la autoconciencia, exhibió una preparación vocal y física de ejecución totalmente diferente de las que se aprecian en los cantantes occidentales, con una técnica donde la respiración y la gestualidad pasan prácticamente desapercibidas, dando un resultado musical notable, sobre todo en su conexión, casi hipnótica, con los oyentes.

de paso: precioso concierto e iniciativa para reunir a una audiencia
perteneciente a diferentes cultura, lenguas y religiones. Vestidas incluso de
maneras muy diversas. Extraordinario y nada habitual el recibimiento en la sala
desde ante del concierto del Embajador de la India y su esposa, interesándose
con verdadera dedicación por casi cada uno de los integrantes del público y
anunciando- por parte de la Embajador, muchos y bellos eventos convocados por
su legación próximamente.
La
relación y presentación entre los presentes de los diplomáticos ha sido
modélica, en el sentido de que su presencia se ha volcado más que en otras
sedes de este tipo, en el contacto y la libertad de movimiento de su entorno y
de ellos mismos.
Así,
los habituales gestos de pompa y circunstancia y distanciamiento a los que
estamos habituados en situaciones análogas se han visto felizmente desplazados
por la cercanía y la calidez de dos seres humanos absolutamente disponibles y
felices de recibir. Excelentes representantes en España de los pueblos lejanos
a los que representan en Europa, en tiempos también complicados y tensos para
las relaciones internacionales entre los gobiernos y sus ciudadanos.

CASA DE LA INDIA AND THE EMBASSY OF INDIA IN SPAIN PRESENT A MAGNIFICENT CONCERT AT THE ROYAL CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC OF MADRID

On yesterday Sunday afternoon, amid the bustle and rush of people busy with their Christmas preparations, a different kind of space emerged: in the capital, audiences were able to enjoy the timeless beauty of dhrupad in its purest form, in an evening of spiritual and musical transcendence with Kirit Singh (vocals) and Jorge Lozano (pakhawaj).
The audience, which filled the Conservatory’s auditorium, was varied, with a strong presence of members of the Hindu community in Spain, representatives of Casa de la India, diplomats, and officials from Madrid’s cultural institutions that exert an important influence on the city’s musical, literary, anthropological, and social life.
Dhrupad vocal music represents a journey of surrender to the divine melodic entities of the ragas—the oldest form of raga music that has survived and continues to be practiced today, originating in ancient times on the Indian subcontinent.
This vocal and instrumental tradition—according to the explanation given by His Excellency the Ambassador of India, Mr. Jayant N. Khobragade, who expressed himself fluently in both English and Spanish—has a narrative spanning more than 3,000 years and is linked to the Vedas. The form begins with an improvised alap using abstract syllables, in which the raga is explored in three different tempi (slow, medium, and fast). The presentation of each raga concludes with a composition that includes lyrics, set to specific rhythmic cycles, accompanied by the ancient percussion instrument known as the pakhawaj, played with great efficiency and skill by Jorge Lozano.
Kirit Singh, for his part, has studied vocal music under the guidance of the world-renowned dhrupad master Pt. Uday Bhawalkar ji since 2013. He teaches dhrupad and has performed for famous institutions and organizations around the world, including the Barbican (as part of the Darbar Festival), South Asian Arts UK, SAMA Arts Network, the South Asia Institute of Chicago, the Temple of Fine Arts in Kuala Lumpur, the Satori Arts Academy in Dhaka, and Hast-O-Neest in Lahore, among others.
He is a master at playing the instrument, singing, and at the same time rhythmically moving his free hand in accordance with the melodies. With a very Eastern command of the body—turned inward, deep, opening chakras and self-awareness—he displayed a vocal and physical preparation for performance entirely different from that seen in Western singers, employing a technique in which breathing and gesture are almost imperceptible, resulting in a remarkable musical outcome, above all in his almost hypnotic connection with the listeners.
Passing notes: a beautiful concert and a wonderful initiative to bring together an audience belonging to different cultures, languages, and religions—even dressed in very diverse ways. Particularly extraordinary and unusual was the welcome in the hall before the concert by the Ambassador of India and his wife, who showed genuine dedication in engaging with almost every member of the audience and announced—on behalf of the Ambassador—many forthcoming and beautiful events organized by his mission.
The interaction and presentation among the diplomats present was exemplary, in the sense that their presence was more focused than in other venues of this kind on direct contact and freedom of movement within their surroundings and among themselves.
Thus, the customary gestures of pomp, ceremony, and distance to which we are accustomed in similar situations were happily replaced by the closeness and warmth of two human beings who were fully approachable and genuinely happy to welcome others. Excellent representatives in Spain of the distant peoples they represent in Europe, at a time that is also complicated and tense for international relations between governments and their citizens.
