Esta colección reúne los dos discos anteriores con la música de las películas de Spielberg que grabó junto con la Boston Pops Orchestra para Sony Classical: The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration (1991) y Williams on Williams: The Classic Spielberg Scores (1995). Esos discos incluyen desde la música de Sugarland Express (Loca evasión) (1974) hasta Jurassic Park y La lista de Schindler (1993).
La colección se actualiza con un tercer disco grabado en 2016 con Williams al mando de la Recording Arts Orchestra of Los Angeles, y con Spielberg como productor ejecutivo. Incluye por primera vez grabaciones de Indiana Jones y el reino de la calavera de cristal, Amistad, El Gran Gigante Bonachón, Las aventuras de Tintín, Minority Report, Atrápame si puedes, En busca del arca perdida, Salvar al soldado Ryan, Caballo de batalla, La Terminal, Múnich y el documental de Spielberg de 1999, The Unfinished Journey.
El DVD que acompaña a la colección de tres CD presenta Steven Spielberg & John Williams: The Adventure Continues, un nuevo documental del cineasta e historiador Laurent Bouzereau, que ha documentado el trabajo de Spielberg durante más de 20 años.
“Cuando dirigí la Boston Pops, para mí fue una gran alegría haber podido grabar mucha de la música que había escrito para las películas de Steven,” comentó Williams sobre los primeros dos discos de la colección. “Así que le dije: ‘Steven, ¿qué te parece si completamos la colección de Sony incluyendo todo aquello que no teníamos cuando se grabó el último disco, y esta vez con nuestra gran orquesta aquí en Los Angeles?’ A lo que Steven respondió: ‘¡Es una idea genial!’”
Cuando Steven Spielberg hizo su primera película para cines The Sugarland Express (Loca Evasión, en inglés) en 1974, buscó a John Williams para que compusiera la música. Salvo dos excepciones, Williams ha creado la música de todas las películas de Spielberg. La colaboración de estos dos grandes artistas es única en su continuidad y variedad infinita de estilo y expresión, incluso a la vista de otras colaboraciones legendarias en la historia del cine como la de Bernard Herrmann con Alfred Hitchcock, Nino Rota con Federico Fellini, y Ennio Morricone con Sergio Leone.
“Oh, ¡esta ha sido una gran aventura!,” Spielberg le dice a Williams al finalizar la película de Bouzereau. “Esta ha sido una aventura más grande que la saga entera de Indiana Jones, en lo que a mí respecta… Ha sido un honor para mí trabajar todos estos años con John y disfrutar de su amistad, su compañerismo y su fraternidad. Cuando hicimos Sugarland Express, no nos dimos cuenta de que habíamos elegido el mismo camino para ser colaboradores y amigos por el resto de nuestras vidas.”
A lo largo de su constante carrera, que ya cumple seis décadas, Williams ha ganado cinco Premios de la Academia (tres de ellos con películas de Spielberg), siete Premios BAFTA (Academia del cine británico), cuatro Globos de Oro, y veintidós Premios Grammy. En 2017, sus 50 nominaciones a los Premios de la Academia son un récord entre los compositores, y ocupa el segundo lugar (detrás de Walt Disney) como el artista individual con más nominaciones a estos premios. Quince de esas nominaciones son gracias a la música que creó para películas de Steven Spielberg.

MALTA APS SUMMER FESTIVAL
The third edition of the APS Summer Festival will take place at the University of Malta campus quadrangle between 20 and 31 July 2022.
Under the artistic direction of Annalisa Schembri and in celebration of diversity and the magic of live entertainment, the Festival presents a line-up of acts and performances by headline artists. They include the Beangrowers, The New Victorians, with their exclusive new album live set and a warm-up act of upcoming, young, female talent; Qamar–Qabar; a multidisciplinary performance into sights and sounds by composer Alex Vella Gregory, soprano Miriam Cauchi, and cellist Simon Abdilla Joslin, accompanied by visual interventions by Austin Camilleri. The Festival hosts local bands and musicians including Kantera, singer-songwriter Walter Micallef, Skald, ManaTapu, Cushion and a musical theatre performance by l-Aħwa Bezzina about the songs of popular Maltese singer-songwriter Gaetano Kanta.
The Festival programme includes an
evening dedicated to children, with sensory-friendly shows developed especially
for three different groups of young audiences ranging from 0 to11 years of age.
This special evening includes a brand-new show commissioned by the Festival called Chromatopia created by Analise
Mifsud and Mirko Galea and shows produced by More or Less Theatre and the fun
duo Sean Briffa and Jeremy Grech. Returning to the stage this year is the space
given to upcoming talent and community with artists from the University of
Malta School of Performing Arts, MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts and
Refugee Week Malta.
The APS Summer Festival is also hosting a number of international acts
including Puerto Flamenco, a Seville-based dance troupe with an authentic
Flamenco show led by Ċikka Grima and a night of clownerie experience with Brazilian-Italian
artists from Companhia Palma and Italian artist Giovanni Risola in the Otto
Panzer Show.
The closing night will host a show curated in collaboration with the
Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring Mathias Camilleri with a circus art
performance on the Chinese pole, accompanied by spoken word written and
performed specifically for the Festival by Gabriel Lia. A series of workshops
throughout the 12 days of the Festival will
also be open specifically for artists and practitioners of the local creative
economy.

keep it boutique and bespoke, creating space for fringe festivals to exist and
create a strong market for them locally.”
Rector Prof. Alfred J. Vella commented, “The University delivers
education, but also culture is a big part of that delivery. We feel that by
having the Festival happen on our campus, it is very much part of our mission
in education.”
