Poznań Opera
Hailed as the greatest Polish opera of the 19th century, The Haunted Manor does not yet have the international recognition it deserves. In Moniuszko's masterpiece, two brothers just returned from war resolve never to marry in order to serve their country. Their determination is put to the test when they encounter two headstrong sisters living in a mysterious manor house.
At Poznań Opera, the Italian director Ilaria
Lanzino and the German set designer Leif-Erik Heine give the opera a revamp. Their directorial
concept, which won the 11th European Opera Directing Prize, carves out the
generational and gender conflict at its heart. Under the direction of Marco
Guidarini, the music brims with its inventive melodies and unique local colour.
Take a glimpse behind the scenes of Poznań Opera during the general
rehearsal for Moniuszko’s patriotic opera The Haunted Manor. Ilaria Lanzino's
bold staging, for which she won the European Opera Directing Prize, sees the
finest Polish opera of the 19th century with fresh eyes.
