May 2025 will be Mahler's month in Amsterdam. The Royal
Concertgebouw will host the third Mahler Festival in its history. All
symphonies and songs by the beloved composer will be performed during the ten
days of the festival.
Marina Mahler, the composer's granddaughter, on the Mahler Festival: "It is very special to see how the Concertgebouw pays tribute to Mahler's universe in Amsterdam, a city that Mahler truly loved and that has honoured him from his lifetime to the present day."
During the Mahler Festival, all of Gustav Mahler's symphonies and songs will be performed over ten days in the Main Hall and Recital Hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra - conducted by Klaus Mäkelä, will open the festival with the First Symphony, while the Berlin Philharmonic will close the festival with the Tenth.
The symphonies will be performed in order: from number 1 to
number 10. The festival in the Great Hall will be a chronological journey
through Mahler's life and symphonic work, performed by several world-famous
orchestras and conductors. Mahler's entire repertoire of intimate songs will be
presented in the Recital Hall. The festival will be accompanied by an extensive
support program.
The symphonic work will be performed by top orchestras from
around the world. We will hear the Concertgebouw Orchestra, but also the
Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer, the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra conducted by Jaap van Zweden, the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by
Kiril Petrenko and the NHK Tokyo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fabio Luisi.
