NEW At the Macerata Opera Festival, Papageno and Pamina speak Italian. Under Graham Vick's inventive eye, The Magic Flutebecomes Il flauto magico: a sparkling, unabashedly political take on Mozart's operatic classic set here and now, with 100 locals and migrants on the monumental open-air stage of the early 19th century stadium, Sferisterio.
'We will see those who create and those who destroy, those who have and those who have not, those who protect themselves and those who are excluded, those who are rich and those who are poor.' Graham Vick

January on OperaVision
OperaVision welcomes the New Year with a programme spanning nearly four centuries. Look forward to Anne Sofie von Otter in Kaija Saariaho's oratorio La Passion de Simone from Stockholm, Bellini's stormy opera Il pirata in our first live stream from Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow and from Dijon Luigi Rossi's virtually unknown masterpiece The Enchanted Palace, which conductor Leonardo García Alarcón unearthed in the Vatican Library.
KURT WEILL AND THE KOMISCHE OPER BERLIN
Ever since their collaboration on Paul
Abraham's operetta Ball im Savoy, the celebrated actress-singer Katharine
Mehrling and artistic director Barrie Kosky have enjoyed a special artistic
friendship. In Lonely House, they transform Komische Oper Berlin’s big stage
into an intimate setting where they present French chansons and American songs
from Kurt Weill's exile in Paris and New York.
Kurt Weill is primarily known for the works he
created with Bertolt Brecht. But his oeuvre encompasses much more than just The
Threepenny Opera and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. His musicals
written for Broadway are no less revolutionary than the German works that
preceded them.
