FUNTASTICO – JAIME HAYON // DESIGN MUSEUM, HOLON

On view from 30th November 2015 until 30th April 2016, Design Museum Holon presents “Funtastico” Exhibition, a retrospective of the last 10 years of work by spanish designer Jaime Hayon. One of the leading designers of our generation, he’s well known for always working at the confluence of design and art, creating his own fantastic worlds in a style that may be portrayed as ‘baroque’, ‘eclectic’ or ‘surrealistic’.

The exhibition presents product, furniture and interior design pieces including the iconic Green Chicken, created for the Shanghai show ‘Contrasts and Contradictions: Chapter 1’ (2006) raising the design vs. art dispute of creativity being limited by functionality. The Tournament – a colossal chess set handcrafted and handpainted by Hayon – is another prominent exhibit. Inspired by the Battle of Trafalgar, the piece was built for the Design Festival London (2009).

To mark the Design Museum Holon’s 5th anniversary, Jaime Hayon created a unique design piece for the Museum’s permanent collection. Kindly donated to the Museum by Caesarstone, a developer and manufacturer of premium quartz surfaces, this was exclusively added to the show and reflects Hayon’s passion for giant primitive masks, evoking ancient history and an animal-like shape.

// In programma dal 30 novembre scorso fino al 30 Aprile prossimo, Design Museum Holon presenta “Funtastico”, una retrospettiva dedicata agli ultimi 10 anni di lavoro del designer spagnolo Jaime Hayon. Uno dei designer più importanti della nostra generazione, Jaime è molto conosciuto per lavorare sempre ai limiti tra arte e design, creando i suoi mondi fantastici in uno stile che viene spesso descritto come “barocco”, “eclettico” o “surrealista”.

La mostra presenta prodotti, arredi e pezzi di arredamento e include l’iconico Green Chicken, creato appositamente per la mostra tenutasi a Shangai ‘Contrasts and Contradictions: Chapter 1’ (2006) che sollevava la questione della creatività limitata dalla funzionalità. The Tournament – una enorme scacchiera realizzata a mano e dipinta a mano da Hayon – è uno dtra gli altri oggetti importanti esposti. Ispirato alla battaglia di Trafalgar, l’oggetto è stato costruito in occasione del London Design Festival del 2009.

Per celebrare inoltre il quinto anniversario del Design Museum di Holon, Jaime Hayon ha ideato un pezzo unico che sarà inserito nella collezione permanente del museo. Generosamente donato al Museo da Caesarstone, azienda di alta gamma produttrice di superfici in quarzo, l’oggetto riflette la passione del designer per le grandi maschere primitive, che evocano storie antiche e forme di animali.
