THE PORT: PÉREZ ART MUSEUM MIAMI OPENED "BASQUIAT: THE UNKNOWN NOTEBOOKS" TO THOUSANDS


Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) celebrated the opening of Basquiat: The Unknown Notebookswith two nights of events and programming. 
The festivities kicked off with the Museum Circle member preview on August 10, 2016, where guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres as they got a first glimpse at this major exhibition focused on Jean-Michel Basquiat’s notebooks. Notable attendees included musician Lenny Kravitz, who toured the galleries with PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans, Barbara Becker and Amaris Jones; Miami Heat player Juwan Howard; Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz; Chairman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, District 2, Jean Monestime; and artists Edouard Duval-Carrié, Glexis Novoa and TYPOE.

The next evening, PAMM welcomed more than 1,500 guests for the public opening of the exhibition, on view through October 16, 2016. The evening kicked off in the auditorium with an art talk by artist William Cordova, followed by a discussion with PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans and Assistant Curator María Elena Ortiz. On the terrace, Tradisyon Lakou Lakay dance ensemble and DJ Gardy kept the party going with a traditional Vodou-inspired dance accompanied by magical melodies and beautiful rhythmic roots music of Haiti, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, combined with retro electronic music. Notable attendees included Miami City Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon and artists Michele Oka Doner, Tomás Esson, Lynne Golob Gelfman, Adler Guerrier, Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova and Frances Trombly.
