ELSA DORFMAN AND SELF-PORTRAITURE IN PHOTOGRAPHY. BOSTON, MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

Beloved Cambridge photographer Elsa Dorfman is known for her large-format commissioned Polaroid portraits. The exhibition “Elsa Dorfman: Me and My Camera” is the first to explore the theme of autobiography in her work, seen through a selection of the 20x24 Polaroid self-portraits that she’s made since 1980s, as well as her landmark 1974 black-and-white photobook Elsa’s Housebook: A Woman’s Photojournal. The curators of the exhibition, Anne Havinga and James Leighton, discuss Dorfman’s work within the history of photographic self-portraiture.
