The iconic Indian musician
Ravi Shankar is celebrated in a major new touring project, a co-production with
London Philharmonic Orchestra and Curve Theatre, Leicester.
Myth, music and dance bring
to life the final musical vision of Indian sitar star the late Ravi Shankar.
Sukanya celebrates the spiritual commonalities between Indian and Western
classical music traditions through a story taken from the Sanskrit texts of the
Mahabharata. After a terrible mistake leaves the ancient sage Chyavana blinded,
the beautiful princess Sukanya finds herself marrying for the sake of her
kingdom. As a pair of swaggering, meddling gods watch this unlikely union
blossom, will love grow in the strangest of circumstances?
Directed by Associate
Director of Curve Suba Das, with choreography by Aakash Odedra, and performed
by an ensemble of Indian musicians and Western singers, dancers of the Aakash
Odedra Company and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, this co-production with
The Royal Opera is set to be a truly unique musical and theatrical experience.
This semi-staged concert performance receives its world premiere at Curve, with
subsequent performances at The Lowry in Salford, Birmingham Symphony Hall and
London’s Royal Festival Hall.
