The annual Mozartfest, is a 9-day,
16-concert, feast of fine classical music performed by outstanding
international artists - against a backdrop of remarkable venues in the unique
Roman and Georgian City of Bath. As its name suggests, Bath Mozartfest is a celebration
of the work and influence of W A Mozart, but it is in no way limited to his
music. Indeed, this year’s festival will present works ranging from the Italian
Renaissance to the 20th century. It is the combination of artistic director
Amelia Freedman’s bold and inspired programming, plus top quality musicians,
which has given Bath Mozartfest its international reputation and which attracts
audiences from far and wide, many making an annual pilgrimage.
This year’s role call of world-class artists includes the American-based
Emerson Quartet; Angela Hewitt, undoubtedly one of the pre-eminent contemporary
pianists; baritone Roderick Williams who will be accompanied by Roger Vignoles
in a performance of Schubert’s Winterreise;
and The Hallé orchestra, conducted by Sir Mark Elder, to offer just a few
tempting names. Hugh Canning observed in The Sunday Times that: Bath Mozartfest delivers small musical miracles in
the City’s glorious surroundings. Expect more ‘musical miracles’
this November, and make sure you book your tickets early as concerts will sell
out.
