A double programme bringing
together two jewels of the zarzuela repertoire, which Lluís Pasqual, the stage
director, transforms into a radio programme. In this version, which unfurls a
new theatrical narrative, Château Margaux is part of a radio competition, and
during its broadcast we hear the work’s musical numbers. The story continues
with La viejecita, (The Little Old Lady) which appears in the show as if it
were a performance broadcast live from the radio studio. Everything is imbued
with the ambience of 1950s Spanish Radio, which Pasqual impregnates with
memories from his infancy, when hearing zarzuela over the radio waves was his
real musical education.
