STOCKHOLM. BAROQUE. EXHIBITION AT KULTURHUSET

What is Baroque? The absurdity, excessive, unreasonable, unbounded? In our Culture transformed the House into a fully baroque city Theatre allkonsthus. In the exhibition "Baroque", a collaboration with the National Museum, meets Baroque masterpiece contemporary international art.

The exhibition shows the strong links between the Baroque and our time: just like in the 17th century, it is about a changing world, about fear and fascination with the strange, about religion, life cycles and identity.

All activities in kulturhuset Municipal Theater involved in the Baroque theme. It becomes a large masquerade ball for all ages concerts where Baroque music meets modern music forms, opera, improvisation, dance performances, talk-shows, video and theatre.


Some of the contemporary artists are: Vasco Araujo, John Coplans, Isaac Julien, Annika von Hausswolff, Pierre et Gilles, Toni Matelli, Ylva Ogland, Pierre Gonnord, Sam Taylor-Johnson and Joana Vasconcelos.


From the National Museum Collections displayed works by, among others: Rembrandt van Rijn, El Greco, Deebenniman van Ruisdael, Gerrit Dou, Jan Davidsz de Heem, David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl, Georges de La Tour, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Francisco de Zurbarán, and Frans Hals.
