The Maria Callas Museum is
located at 44 Mitropoleos str. in the
heart of Athens. It is a neoclassic building, 1.070 square meters owned by the
Municipality of Athens. The plan is to open by the end of 2017, beginning 2018.
In the Museum the visitor
will have a unique experience. One floor is dedicated to her voice. We will
hear “Traviata”, “Medea”, “Tosca” and “Norma” in an audio visual setting. In
another floor her personal objects and memorabilia will be displayed, as well
as photos from all periods of her life and singing career.
The ground floor will have
the Museum shop and a bistro by the name of “Divina”. The top floor, with a
breath-taking view of the Acropolis will have a mediatheque (library and audio
room) and will hold small music and opera recitals, educational programs,
master classes and the society and museum members meetings.
The building is undergoing
right now certain architectural adjustments for operating purposes. As soon as
this is done, building permissions will be granted and construction will start.
The goal is to have a
museum that equals the fame of the Diva and a place where people of all races
and nationalities will have an experience of the Maria Callas legend. This museum will enhance the cultural
life of the city and will be an additional tourist attraction.
