The Fabric Workshop and
Museum is pleased to announce the opening of Process and Practice: 40 Years of
Experimentation, an exhibition celebrating four decades of innovation.
Curated by Executive
Director Susan Lubowsky Talbott, Process and Practice reveals a rarely-seen
side of the Museum’s Artist-in-Residence Program through the unpacking of its
unique collection of Artists’ Boxes. Displayed will be notes, sketches, tests,
and models from over one hundred boxes, including those of such celebrated
artists as Laurie Anderson, Chris Burden, Cai Guo-Qiang, and Kara Walker.
Paired with completed works
from the permanent collection, the boxes reveal the private thoughts and
creative leaps of artists exploring unfamiliar materials, testing ideas and
ultimately producing new works.
The exhibition serves as a
tribute to the enduring vision of FWM’s late founder, Marion Boulton “Kippy”
Stroud and marks the conclusion of The Fabric Workshop and Museum’s 40th
anniversary year.
Process and Practice: 40
Years of Experimentation continues at The Fabric Workshop and Museum (1214 Arch
St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) through March 25, 2018.
